Project Goal
For this project, two different vinyl covers had to be designed based on Modern and Postmodern design. The album Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves was selected for the design and inspiration was pulled from the original album in order to create each variation.
Research
Through looking into both modern and postmodern design it was important to incorporate significant aspects of each era as well as designers. The modern poster is inspired by the modern designer Lester Beall who created posters with flat colours, white space and simple, geometric shapes. The postmodern cover is inspired by April Greiman who was an influential designer during that era who used collage, expressive typography and pixelation in her work.
Project Outcome
The final design takes the blue and pink colours from the original cover as well as the fan motif. The modern cover is clean and simple and uses bold sans serif typography while the postmodern cover uses a collage of images, textures and expressive typography.
